NFM Kids Mixed Martial Arts

Welcome to NFM Windsor Kids Mixed Martial Arts club

Welcome to our club. The purpose of this blog is to provide you with information as your child begins training martial arts. Hopefully this blog will answer any of the questions you may have but if they don’t feel free to contact us through our here, by phone or to speak to one of our instructors.

We provide classes during school term time for children from 5-12 years of age.

We believe that MMA is a great activity for children and is different from other hobbies such as football, rugby or tennis because of the life skills that martial arts can teach children on top of the health benefits of doing physical activity.

Our fun, yet structured and disciplined classes teach children how to focus their attention which improves their ability to learn. Once the children begin to learn new things they begin to feel a real sense of accomplishment and with each new accomplishment a child’s self confidence will grow.

Once we begin to build a child’s confidence we are then able to instil the values of respect, courtesy, honesty and integrity that are the foundations of martial arts.

As well as the character building aspects of MMA there are many physical benefits and children will become fitter stronger and more coordinated by dedication themselves to MMA. It is also great for losing weight but in a fun way while learning new skills.

The combined physical and character foundations that we aim to develop at NFM Windsor Kids MMA club will help children excel in their academic school studies, sports and social endeavours. This will ensure that they grow into strong confident adolescents that have the strength of character to stand up to peer pressure and be leaders instead of followers.

Gradings will take place at the end of every term and are a great way for children and parents to monitor progress but also for the children to have goals to work towards.

We believe it is important for children to learn to set short, intermediate and long term goals. At NFM Windsor Kids MMA club the child’s goal should be the red tag. Through hard work and dedication this symbol of achievement can be realised and will encourage a great deal of confidence and self worth within the child.

There are four grades representing different levels of competency and dedication.

  1. White tag
  2. Yellow tag
  3. Orange tag
  4. Red tag

What is Mixed Martial Arts (MMA)?

MMA is a combination of all the Olympic combat sports and some other non Olympic combat sports. The sport is split into three main areas Wrestling, Striking and Submissions. In contests the fighters can win by KO/TKO, Submission or judge’s decision.

Is it safe?

Kids  MMA is tailored to the capabilities of children and although they will train in all areas of the sport they will never strike each other in the head and every precaution is taken to ensure the safety of the children. Bumps and bruises are inevitable in martial arts but more serious injuries are extremely rare.

What do they have to wear?

Loose fitting clothes are fine as long as they have no metal zips or buttons. Uniform can be bought through the gym and consists of shorts and a tshirt.

Are the instructors CRB checked?

Yes, all our instructors a fully CRB checked and have years of experience working with children.

What sort of stuff will they learn?

They will start with the simple movements and drills that make up the techniques of the three areas of MMA. The will do striking techniques with pads but not any live sparring. Some of the older children will do sparring but only with strikes to the body. They will learn wrestling and submissions together and will do some live grappling sparring but in a controlled manner. From white belt they will start with more grappling and introduce more and more striking as they work towards their red tag.
